Mercury MerCruiser is expanding SmartCraft Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS) availability to its family of small-block inboard and Bravo sterndrive petrol engines. The MerCruiser 350 MAG MPI and MX 6.2 MPI, the Bravo sterndrive versions of these models, plus the 5.0-litre MPI sterndrive are now available with SmartCraft DTS as an option.
MerCruiser big-block petrol engines, many Mercury outboards and Quantum series inboards from Cummins MerCruiser Diesel already benefit from SmartCraft DTS, which is a fully integrated digital system for throttle control and gear changing, driven by Mercury’s PCM 555 controller through a dedicated Controlled Area Network.
Features include double or triple redundancy within critical areas, auto-synchronisation of both engine speeds on twin installations, precise and smooth throttle control – free from mechanical cables – dual helm and triple engine capability, shift protection to prevent drive damage, the Smart Start device to prevent accidental starter engagement when engines are running, and Transmission Guardian for inboards, saving the transmission from potential clutch damage due to improper fuel levels. Scheduled maintenance of DTS is unnecessary.
