"Brunswick Enterprise Information Technology"23/06/2004
BRUNSWICK ENTERPRISEINFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ORGANIZATIONALSTRUCTUREIam pleased to announce the formation of an enterprise-wideorganization for information technology effective today. This newstructure is aimed at addressing our information technology gaps byimplementing a cohesive and comprehensive strategy and leveraginginformation technology across all of Brunswick's operations. BillAvery, Vice President and Chief Information Officer - BrunswickCorporation, will head the new organization, and will continue toreport to me.
Under this newstructure, all IT operations and staff currently being handled atthe division level will be consolidated into one Enterprise ITorganization. That organization will then work with our operationsto better support all Brunswick businesses globally.
We aim toaccomplish many objectives by placing all IT functions throughoutBrunswick under the direction of a single Enterprise ITorganization. Among the primary objectives are thefollowing:
1. Be moreeffective and perform better in the marketplace. Having theproper information and data readily available to help make businessdecisions is critical to our success. Such information is currentlydifficult and time consuming to get, making even for the most basicanalysis a complex process. Brunswick is committed to ensuring thatIT is truly a competitive weapon for the Company in the future bymaking the appropriate investments to upgrade both its informationtechnology systems and staff to meet changing demands of thebusiness and marketplace.2. More effectivelyleverage our IT investment across the company. In many areas,Brunswick spends more than 80 cents of every IT dollar to supportand maintain our current and legacy systems. This leavesinsufficient investment capability for strategic projects toimprove the business. Through a more coordinated approach to our ITspend, we believe we can get a better return on our currentinvestment as well as those we anticipate making in the future withsystems projects now in the planning stage.3. Hold our ITinvestments to the same standards we do any other segment of ourbusiness. If we commitfunds to develop a new product or modernize a manufacturingprocess, for example, we would expect that investment to provide areasonable return. We expect the same from any money we spend on ITservices, and will apply the same rigor and financial discipline wedo to any other segment of our operation.4. Provide anorganizational structure that is better suited for our evolvingbusiness. Our businesses'systems requirements are becoming more integrated as we move toward"One Company - One Culture." This structure will allow acoordinated, cohesive approach to utilizing and leveraging thecapabilities of all segments of Brunswick. To furthersupport this effort, we formed the Brunswick Information TechnologyGoverning Committee to coordinate our global IT strategy. Servingon the committee with Bill are T.J.
