"Three New Four-Stroke Outboards"
21/02/2006
Mercury and Mariner have developed three new electronically fuel injected four-stroke outboards, at 75HP (55.1kW), 90HP (66.2kW) and 115HP (84.5kW).  Unveiled at Miami Boat Show, these 3 new outboards will be rated at 80, 100 and 115 HP respectively for Europe, Africa, the Middle-East and CIS markets where they are scheduled to be available from early summer 2006 .

These 1.7-litre engines have been developed as part of Mercury Marine’s Verado strategy, although they do not bear the Verado name, which is reserved for the supercharged outboards line.  They share a common engine architecture with Verado and many components.  The block, connecting rods and internal bearings are the same, for instance.

The new F80, F100 and F115 are naturally aspirated and have an electronic control module (ECM) featuring a Motorola microprocessor.  This processing power provides precise control over the fuel management system and combustion processes, constantly monitoring the engine and making any adjustments necessary to maintain optimum performance.  Full SmartCraft functionality is standard, showing engine status and performance data, thereby allowing the user to optimise engine performance and increase safety.

There is reliable, instant starting without any choking or manipulation of the throttle.  The self-priming fuel system with integrated fuel supply module is the same as on the Verado outboards.

Quiet and smooth running is achieved through an integrated idle relief attenuator and a new-design cowl.  This combines Verado-inspired external styling with air ducting.  The acoustic foam-lined cowl is made from engineered polymers, which are lighter and stronger than conventional cowling materials.
