The newaccolade comes on the heels of Verado winning the 2004 IBEXInnovation Award in its category Oct. 27 at the InternationalBoatbuilders' Exhibition and Conference in MiamiBeach. The staff ofField & Stream each year tests hundreds of outdoor products, awarding top-performing items the title of "Best of the Best."Eighteen hunting, fishing and outdoor products made the cut thisyear, selected by a seven-person panel of gear fanatics and expertsportsmen. This "Best of the Best Awards" gear has it all:revolutionary design; outstanding performance in the field; andgreat price. Products are featured in the December/January issue ofField & Stream, on newsstands Nov. 23, 2004."The Best of theBest Awards are a great way for outdoorsmen to maneuver through themountain of gear available," said Anthony Licata, senior editor atField & Stream. "It's a wish list for sportsmen, with 18quality products you can count on in the field."According toLicata, it takes a special breed of product to make the cut for theBest of the Best list."For the Best ofthe Best Awards, we're always looking for innovation," he said."We're looking for something a company does that is a littledifferent from other companies, really pushing its product to thelimit and really offering sportsmen something that they can't findanywhere else."We felt Veradowas very typical of what we are looking for in a Best of the Bestwinner. It's a bold design that uses new technology to do somethingthat other outboard engines haven't been able to do in thepast."Verado has had aphenomenal debut season since its unveiling at the MiamiInternational Boat Show in February. Demand for the engines hasbeen high since its introduction, and with good reason: Verado isthe first marine propulsion system to combine outstandingperformance with the amenities one would expect from a luxury car.Verado is whisper quiet, and comes standard with Digital Throttle& Shift and electro-hydraulic power steer. It couples itsimpeccable manners with a supercharged and intercooled design thatdelivers the raw-boned torque and speed demanded byhigh-performance enthusiasts.According toLicata, a big part of Verado's allure derives from what it can dofor the average angler."It reallyoffers something of value to fishermen," he said. "We found thatit's very easy to use, which lets you concentrate on the fishing. It's also very quiet, with low emissions, which lets you troll withit if you don't want to run your small trollingmotor."The inlinesix-cylinder Verado is available in 200, 225, 250 and 275 hpmodels.
