"Brunswick reinforces Uttern boat brand"
02/09/2009

Petit-Rechain, BELGIUM. (June 16, 2009) – Brunswick Marine in Europe (BME) has announced its intention to reinforce the Uttern boat brand by a series of measures that may include relocation of manufacturing facilities. To bolster its position in the marketplace, current economic conditions require that product be manufactured in the most cost efficient manner possible, explained John Pfeifer, President of Brunswick Marine in Europe.

The proposed plan may include a gradual reduction of production in the Skellefteå, Sweden facility over the next several months. At the same time, the company is in the process of developing an alternate site to result in lower costs. A key element of this change will be a sharp focus on product quality and improved aesthetics. Brunswick will draw a team of experts from its Global Marine organization to ensure the success of any initiatives taken, according to Pfeifer.

“The Uttern brand of Scandinavian style boats is strategic to Brunswick’s boat portfolio,” Pfeifer said. “Dealers and consumers will see significant product enhancements with the launch of 2010 product in the fall,” continued Pfeifer.

Uttern Boats was founded in 1964, and is today one of the leading leisure boat brands in the Nordics. It was acquired by Brunswick Marine in 1996. Brunswick Marine companies include Mercury and MerCruiser engines, as well as the Hatteras, Boston Whaler, Sea Ray and Bayliner boat brands, among others. Brunswick also has a strategic joint venture with Bella Boats Ltd. in Finland producing Bella, Flipper and Aquador boats.
